The 26th Dorking 10

After first covering the Dorking 10 in 2004, we've been back every year since to capture the action. A tough race with a bottom lap held on the roads of Surrey it has now adopted a no MP3 rule - which is a continuingly popular and eminently sensible policy especially for road races.
Usually held on the hottest day of the year, much to the chargrin of competitors and waterstation marshals alike, the weather broke overnight to a steady almost ideal temerpature for distance running. This was proven by Phil Wicks from Belgrave Harriers in a time of 49:13, a new course record and some 4m:11s ahead of second placed Jason Simpson (last years winner) and an age grading of 90.76% which is truly top national standard. Let's not forget Jason was 3m:8s ahead of third place with an age grade of 88.57% and 53m:24s.

Personally I'd be happy with a 10k in 53minutes at the moment, let alone a 10 miler anywhere near that time - so big respect to them both.
First lady was in 16th place with an age grading of 83.38% (which was the 7th best age grade, and first non-vet except for Phil Wicks) in a time of 59m:11s was Emily Wicks (yes related somehow but I don't know how!).

Seaford Half Marathon

The NP&S Lions Seaford Half Marathon started off in windy, but perfect temperature conditions, but that eventually degraded into heavy rain after about 2.5 hours. The key was obviously to finish the race as quickly as possible, and it was the walkers who got caught in the rain.
Amongst the entries this year were members of the 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment covering the course in memory of Daniel Prior (more information here) some were carrying kit packs, others were in running kit. It was a big turnout from them, as can be seen from a quick search on Para in the gallery, (although we didn't index all their photos with that). There is a large amount of 000 entries to go through, but that can be quite quick. Let me know any caption corrections by using the link below an image - it will make it easier to find again !

Susannah Evans won the ladies in 1:35:04  13th overall

I think these two just giggled the whole way round

The seven sisters could be seen behind, if it hadn't been raining.
On the upside, the Paras carrying kit could have pitched a tent and had a brew to warm up if it got too cold up on Seaford Head. After the rain cut through my gortex rainproof jacket and waterproof trousers I knew it was time to come home... they might need a bit of tlc now too.
The big congratulations go to everyone who completed the course, and actually even bigger ones to those who braved it all the way round and finished after the rain started - it was hard work out there.
Yet another great event from the NP&S Lions, and profits from photo sales are shared with them, so help me to raise even more money for their good causes !

  1. Perfect photography. The main thing is that there is no shaking in this. Thats the main point of visualization.
