Dartford Bridge Tri - now live

Just a short update - The Dartford Bridge Triathlon Gallery is now live here:
http://gallery.sussexsportphotography.com/a.tlx?k=4o0zfoa

Some good positive feedback on the race over on TriTalk  with the event set to expand next year. It also incorporated the Sevenoaks Tri club and Crystal Palace Tri Club championships (one day someone from CPT will buy an image - it's only been 7 years now) so there must have been some tight rivalries out on the course chasing down clubmates.

We have Swim Exit, Bike and Run photos for your delight, as well as the prize pictures - so get over to the gallery now to see what your rivals got up to:
http://gallery.sussexsportphotography.com/a.tlx?k=4o0zfoa

Capital to Coast 2010 bike ride images are still in progress - target is for early Wednesday morning... next update when it's live.

Raw Energy Pursuits - River Arun Swim

The L Guess Jewellers Ironman River Swim, organised by Raw Energy Pursuits
took place last saturday on the turning tide.
There's a whole report over on Tri247 here, and our gallery of race images is online here: http://gallery.sussexsportphotography.com/a.tlx?k=2a9zfow

A new variation on the triathlon scheme of swim, bike run, the Ironman River Swim is actually Bus, Walk, Swim.

With a very civilised bus ride (open top if you want to do the sightseeing) up to Ford for the start, a short 500m walk and then off for your 3.8k swim. Unless you were a bit tired, in which case you could take the option of paddling along with the tide and the river.

A slight change from last years holding area now to the church - with a short 500m walk to the marina slipway to get into the water quickly. Some decided the 500m walk was the modern equivalent of a gulag march (given the deep and intense concentration on the faces), whilst others (see below) took a moment to psyche themselves up (which obviously worked BTW!)

The start was a great send-off - I've only put one picture here just to give an impression of the water churning that went on. It was a bit busy ! Just search on "start" in the search box to see them all. and if you want to see more pictures of Mick and the others, search on "misc" too...
The last bit of the swim is a sprint up the slipway - which caught a few people out with cramp - which slowed them up a few places - but everyone picked themselves up ok in the end.

There were some strong finishes and great support from the crowds.
with the odd bit of cramp again...
Prizes were well received - from overall winner Mark Moloy in 49:28, all the way through to Caroline Guildford in 1st Female junior in 1:03:18 (good luck with your channel swim!)

The Inaugural Dartford Bridge Tri race went off smoothly on Sunday, as did the Capital to Coast cycle ride. We're going through the pictures just as soon as we can - there's over 25000 images for us to sift through and index with helmet numbers - so please bear with us !

Updates will be posted as galleries go live. Make sure you remember your Tri competitor number or your C2C Helmet / Rider number.

Last Call for G3 free downloads

Don't forget your free downloads !
Just a quick note really for all of you who took part in the Snow+Rock G3 race series back in January, February and March over near Guildford.

We are going to have to make a load of space available for this Sundays Capital to Coast cycle ride -  which means, although we have been hanging on well past the 3 months guarantee for them to be online - your last chance to get your free race downloads is right about now.

If you can't remember you race number - you can find it on the AAT results pages

The direct links to the ATT G3 Snow+Rock galleries are as follows:
Jan Race 1: http://gallery.sussexsportphotography.com/a.tlx?k=3q4zf9c
Feb Race 2: http://gallery.sussexsportphotography.com/a.tlx?k=14xzfcx
Mar Race 3: http://gallery.sussexsportphotography.com/a.tlx?k=26tzff3

The download button is right below the preview image...

And if you like them - don't forget to show your friends using the facebook, twitter, email and other easy sharing twiddly links that are shown on the page just above the images.
And of course if you liked it that much - don't forget to go back to the AAT website and register for the races again in 2011 (because they are always sold out). Alternatively you can even purchase the prints and high res files (although that won't have the branding logos on) which are of course that bit better quality than the files you can download for free.

Other recent Free download races
Whilst I'm at it I'll remind those of you from the recent East Grinstead Triathlon (free download gallery here)- and Mid Sussex Tri (free download gallery here)- make sure you've got yours in plenty of time before they are taken off line too. The three months goes particularly quickly and the gallery space will be needed when we get to mid august...

Why Archive ? (Costs of course)
And if you're wondering why we have to take them off-line - well we can only host 330,000 images on the gallery at any one time. We could pay for even more server space (and put up the photo prices?), but generally this capacity lasts about 3-5 months depending on the time of year - and most of you purchase the ones you want within the first month.
For those of you who like numbers - last year alone we put up almost 700,000 images and we are near to 300,000 already for this year - so as you can see - we do like to keep the gallery fresh !

Next free Download event ?
It's the RPAC Summer 10k on July the 14th at 7.30pm. Full details here: http://www.rpac.org.uk/index.php?p=summer10k
Usually a nice sunny balmy afternoon - it never rains, honest. And it's after the world cup, so you'll need a run out.

See you soon... probably at Bewl15 or Cranleigh10k on July the 4th ?

Picture sharing made easy on the gallery

Seen a picture you want to share on our galleries ?

One you perhaps quite like ? even just a little bit ?

Image Sharing on Sussex Sport Photography Galleries
Well, there's been a few additions to the gallery recently - all aimed at making it easier for you to share pictures directly with your friends, family and facebook acquaintances.

You should see icons like these on the top of gallery pages and picture preview pages:

Any of these little icons will let you post the direct link to the page you are looking at straight to the email/sharing/social channel that you want to. It does tend to work better if you are logged into the service you want to use (i.e. have twitter open on your computer web browser if you want to tweet a link to an image).

The benefit - stay legal easily
The other benefit of sharing links is that it is easier and faster than the rather messy alternative: i.e. trying to take an illegal copy of the image with watermarks and then attach it somewhere, and then explain to your friends why it still has the watermarks on it without appearing like a shoplifter, and then trying to show them the others and going through the whole rigmarole again. You get the idea. Time wasting for everyone.

With this sharing thingy you can simply say here's the link, and my race number was 345 (or whatever it was) and hey presto - they can come along and see you putting your best race face on.

One of my friends - a world hardened runner suggested all the links should include the text "A picture paints a thousand words. I know you look like **** in this one, but if you buy it then your friends will see how much effort you put in".
Well now you don't have to buy it, you can just share it ! (and tell some one else to buy it for you !)

And if you are really interested - it's the addthis.com widget that I'm using for all this...

Also - if you just want the link to an image to add to a website or anything else the links are shown just above the social icons.

Direct html links
If you don't want to use any widget-witchcraft, then you can just get the link shown on the page too (it's called "this images permanent URL")
An image link looks like this:

http://gallery.sussexsportphotography.com/a.tlx?k=1vyzfot&pictureid=12836655

where "k=" is the bit that tells the gallery which event it is and the "pictureid=" is the unique image reference number on the Gallery.

If you just copy the link shown in your address bar from the top of the page in the web-browser - it probably won't work for another visitor as that link is specific to your session in the gallery. So don't get caught out and just use the link shown on the page.

Hopefully that will make it easier for you to share pictures you like with your friends, twitterati, linkedin colleagues, chat forums, facebookers and anyone else - even your family.

Give it a test !
click here: http://gallery.sussexsportphotography.com/a.tlx?k=1vyzfot&pictureid=12836655
to try it out for yourself...and let me know if you like it ! (it's certified office desk safe)

Until the weekend, and good luck for the football,
Anthony

Norwood Junior Bike Ride 2010

Norwood Challenges organised their Annual Junior Charity bike ride every year - one week before the main Capital to Coast ride.(some of you may have seen the posters up in Brighton with our photos on the lamppost flags for the last few months ? well it's next week - click on the link for more information)

The Junior ride is a 10 mile off road ride, excellently marshaled and set out around the space of Aldenham Park, near Watford- and with about 340 riders taking part it was a busy day!

With a flexible start times to keep the traffic blocks to a minimum everyone seemed to make it around either the 5 or 10 mile routes - raising a lot of money for Norwood along the way.

I also handed over a cheque for £170 as our donation raised from sales of images from the 2009 Capital to Coast and Junior Bike Ride Events. It's great to be able to give money back to these successful events, so please help us to do even better this year !

The full Junior Bike Ride gallery is now online here: http://gallery.sussexsportphotography.com/a.tlx?k=317zfou
To find your picture just enter your rider number into the search box (and if you get stuck, just have a read of the information down the page as it was a bit tricky to read some of the numbers).

See you at a race soon, if not the Capital to Coast next week, the team is also out covering the new Dartford Bridge Triathlon in Kent (by the bridge!) which promises to be a great event too !
see you out soon,
Anthony

Worthing 10k now live !

Just in case you hadn't noticed - the Worthing 10k race gallery is now live and online here:
http://gallery.sussexsportphotography.com/a.tlx?k=4iizfos

I couldn't figure it out but I seemed to have missed blogging about it at the time - sorry about that !
Some great racing, nice weather, with a dead heat at the end -and some strong finishes...

Administrative chaos in figuring out how to sort out the prize money not just for first mens place but also across the age grades...
And if you need them - the results are here: http://www.chipresults.co.uk/
