took place last saturday on the turning tide.
There's a whole report over on Tri247 here, and our gallery of race images is online here: http://gallery.sussexsportphotography.com/a.tlx?k=2a9zfow
A new variation on the triathlon scheme of swim, bike run, the Ironman River Swim is actually Bus, Walk, Swim.
With a very civilised bus ride (open top if you want to do the sightseeing) up to Ford for the start, a short 500m walk and then off for your 3.8k swim. Unless you were a bit tired, in which case you could take the option of paddling along with the tide and the river.
A slight change from last years holding area now to the church - with a short 500m walk to the marina slipway to get into the water quickly. Some decided the 500m walk was the modern equivalent of a gulag march (given the deep and intense concentration on the faces), whilst others (see below) took a moment to psyche themselves up (which obviously worked BTW!)
The start was a great send-off - I've only put one picture here just to give an impression of the water churning that went on. It was a bit busy ! Just search on "start" in the search box to see them all. and if you want to see more pictures of Mick and the others, search on "misc" too...
The last bit of the swim is a sprint up the slipway - which caught a few people out with cramp - which slowed them up a few places - but everyone picked themselves up ok in the end.
There were some strong finishes and great support from the crowds.
with the odd bit of cramp again...Prizes were well received - from overall winner Mark Moloy in 49:28, all the way through to Caroline Guildford in 1st Female junior in 1:03:18 (good luck with your channel swim!)
The Inaugural Dartford Bridge Tri race went off smoothly on Sunday, as did the Capital to Coast cycle ride. We're going through the pictures just as soon as we can - there's over 25000 images for us to sift through and index with helmet numbers - so please bear with us !
Updates will be posted as galleries go live. Make sure you remember your Tri competitor number or your C2C Helmet / Rider number.
