A perfect day for XC racing on Saturday - slightly soft under foot (St.Johns reported far less ankles and other injuries like last year on the frozen hard ground) and a new route for each age groups saw some tight and competitive races. With the new course layout making for some easy spectating too - making it quite easy to watch a race at several vantage points on each lap. You only have to walk up the hill first...

Seeing as there is a full race report on the Sussex AAA website, there's not a lot there for me to add. Like the annual back-to-work reunion after Christmas this meeting is a chance for catching up with the rivals and friendly faces you see throughout the year and with the Mens and Womens races being separate, supporters get a chance to chat whilst others were running.

All in all thankfully not *that* cold a day, no rain, a bit of wind , soft underfoot and some great racing and running put in to watch. Well done everyone on turning out for your teams and making the effort, as well as great stuff to the organisers - the new layout will hopefully work for the 2012 Southern Championships !
If you fancy having a go at XC, you don't have to be in a team - here's the dates.

Call for Marshals
Finally a request for marshals and help for the Schools XC champs on Saturday 22nd of January at Lancing Manor.
Helen Reynolds, the Sussex Schools cross-country championships secretary says “We desperately need some volunteers to marshal at this event” Helpers would be required between about 9.45 -1pm and refreshments would be included.
It might be ideal if you are already coming to support your athletes!
School events like this really need volunteers to help them run smoothly!
Anyone interested in helping should just email Helen at hreynolds1@hazelwick.w-sussex.sch.uk
I'd add that we need to encourage running in schools to feed into our running clubs and find the talend of the future - so please get in touch with Helen if you can help. There's no footy worth watching on the telly, so get out there !!
Until next time
Anthony
