Worthing 10k now live

The Worthing 10k 2011 gallery is now live and online here: http://gallery.sussexsportphotography.com/a.tlx?k=2dhzgq4

On a windy Wednesday evening down at Goring Gap the new Worthing 10k course had it's first run out at race pace. With a sell out field of 621 finishing, the out and back down the coast for a few games on Worthing Pier, the return into the strong westerly wind and setting sun was going to be the main challenge of the day.

Unfortunately the gale force gusting wind put paid to the finish arch, flags and razamatazz of the day , but at least tea and coffee trailer stayed on to help keep people warm. The Air temperature itself wasn't much of a problem, but the wind chill once the sun went behind the clouds had a vicious edge to it, numbing the parts flappy clothes cannot cover. On the other hand, I'd prefer wind to heavy rain any day.

The leaders were off the fields before some had just got past the start line...

Matt Dumigan finished in 33:00 - home club winner for the first course record

Terry put some speed back into his legs after being beaten by Natalie at Seaford last weekend

The wind wasn't that strong - John's hat stayed on

WIth Nerurkar and Colgan signing your top - how do you wash it afterwards ?

Samurai or Kamikaze with that wind ?
Despite running hard, the gale force wind held her stationary for hours
Well done to everyone from Gavin the race director, the Harriers team getting it going, FRsystems on the timing and all the marshals along the way, as well as Sam from the Jog Shop not actually blowing away in the wind.

The consensus of the new race was that the location, parking and ease of marshalling was all much better than in previous years. The finish on the grass made it just as good as on the track, all we needed was a bit less wind. I was heartened by the fact that the winner also had fish and chips for his supper after the race, but then he did run the first 5k in 15minutes, so probably deserved it a bit more than me...

Next Races
This weekend sees the sold out Mid Sussex Triathlon - with a pool swim at the triangle. We've just got permission to cover the Richmond 10k, so anyone interested in entering that on the 19th of June click here http://www.sportsystems.co.uk/ss/event/RanelaghHarriersRichmond10K
It's also the Surrey 10k championships, so get in for your chance ouf county colours.

Otherwise at the end of the month it's an evening/morning double with the All About Triathlons G3 races 4 and 5 - http://www.allabouttriathlons.co.uk/events_g3-run.html Enter both and find out if sleep helps your running.

In other news - the free downloads from the recent Arun River Swim are going down very fast - but a note to the late night (3am) downloader who is downloading every single image one-by-one for the past two nights (apart from why ?!!??) : Just go through to the folder view at the bottom, select all the thumbnails, and download a zip folder with them all in. Far easier I'm sure. I just hope you don't have a wetsuit fetish. That would be wrong, very wrong, and please make sure you observe copyright - personal use only. Oh dear, even more wrong. Look, just download the ones of you, leave everyone else alone, please.

So the gallery is here, and a link to the race page is on there too..

Until next time,
Anthony
