Sir Ian counts down to the start of the Pride 10k race |
Saturdays Pride 10k run was yet again started by a top celebrity, last year it was Garath Thomas the Welsh Rugby International, this year it was Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf and a few other famous roles) who started the race with a short thank you speach for the racers and organiser support of the Albert Kennedy Trust
http://www.akt.org.uk/ which is opening its first safe house for young people later this year.
Voted the best 10k in London by Runners world magazine in Feb 2012 the Pride 10k was sold out and the three lap course of Victoria park, in the shadow of the Olympic Stadium was filled with runners for the morning.
The winning times were Mehretab Solomon (#639) in a time of 00:32:39 from Victoria Park Harriers and Cathy Ansell (#992) in 00:35:00 from Herne Hill Harriers.

The London Zoo Stampede Gallery is live here:

Martin Lewis with the Starting Hawk at London Zoo |
The inaugural ZSL London Zoo Stampede was a sell out. Started by a Hawk Screech (although some of the starting hooters I've heard have seemed similar) the course started and finished in London Zoo itself with the course running out into Regents Park. Entry included free entry to the zoo afterwards. On another day of celebrity starters, Martin Lewis founder of the commission website
Money Saving Expert.com had the pleasure of meeting the Starting Hawk.
The winning times were Peter James of Clapham Chasers in 35:35 and Andrea Spaccatrosi in 42:01. Martin Lewis-Smith managed 50:01 - check him out on #848
