RPAC Holly Run now live

The RPAC Holly Run is now live and online here: http://gallery.sussexsportphotography.com/a.tlx?k=hj3zgdj

On a day where just getting to the race was a challenge with even Gatwick Airport shut due to the bad weather and the roads just about passable, it was still a strong turnout in the junior races at the RPAC Holly Run (event website here: http://www.rpac.org.uk/index.php?p=hollyrun )
Despite the sub zero temperatures - with the in-car themometer saying -6 degC at one point everyone seemed in good spirits and up for a race !
Well done to everyone who (a) made it there and (b) who managed to brave the cold and snow for a race, I know my feet just turn to blocks of ice just in cold weather, so how you all managed to do that I don't know, it must be my old age (I'm a MV40 now you see...)

tight and competitive finishing

Start Line flags in the snow

you could always go sledging afterwards

scenic snow scenes and hard running

fast finishes in the womens race

a busy start for the mens race
Don't forget the Boxing Day races at Preston Park, otherwise in the meantime - have a great christmas and stay safe in the snow and ice.

See you at the Serpentine 10k on New Years Day ! http://www.serpentine.org.uk/pages/nyd10k.html

Until next Year !

Anthony

Good luck to everyone in this snow. Crowborough 10k is now cancelled (19th December).

The Last weekend before Christmas

Sundays races coming up are subject to snow and the cold weather.
Click on the links below for direct upates and information:

Crowborough 10k: NOW CANCELLED http://www.crowboroughrunners.org.uk/

Racing planning for the next few weeks:

If like me you have now planned what you're doing over the christmas holidays and into the start of January, you know which relatives your visiting and when, then the next thing to do is plan in your running and racing. So in chronological order we have the following news for you:

Boxing Day Races at Preston Park, Brighton: Entries on the day, and more for the whole family to get involved the Boxing day races are organised by Brighton and Hove City AC.
It about the 65th time the races have been run on Boxing day and this year race entry fees are contributions to Help for Heroes. 10.30am Start for Walks and 10.50am for Runs .  Distances are 2.2k,4.4k,6.6k or 8.8k
Turn up, bring a flask of mulled wine and get some fresh air ahead of the new year.

1st January 2011: New Years Day Serpentine 10k
Organised by the largest running club in london, the Serpentine RC 10k races are a traditional head clearing excercise - held at the nicely later time of 11am it's one of the most social races of the year to take part in. More information and entries here: http://www.serpentine.org.uk/pages/nyd10k.html
A good chance to put down your benchmark for the year...

3rd January 2011 Bank Holiday Monday: The Brutal 10k
Fancy a challenging off road charge around army training grounds ? The first of the Brutal 10k race series is at Longmoor Barracks on the Bank Holiday Monday. If you want to return to work with a half decent story to tell your colleagues of "what you did over the break" except meet the family, then this is definetly the one for you. On the bright side - all the other races for the rest of the year will be easy after this one.
http://www.allabouttriathlons.co.uk/events_brutal-run.html

Do remember to check the Parkrun website to see if your local 5k is still on tomorrow... although you might only be reading this after 9am on a Saturday morning, in which case check it to see when they are on over Christmas - I'm doubtful that too many of them will be run on Christmas Saturday itself !

2011
The rest of January is a mixed bag, the Sussex Race Planner (see links below) has a good list, and we're including the XC Champs at Stanmer Park on the 8th of January, The Epsom Perch (relocated) on the 16th, Stubbington 10k , and finally on the 29th Jan the All About Triathlon G3 race series - which again features free photo downloads !(seriously how good is that?)
Somewhere in this I've got my Dads 70th birthday to go to which involves gokart racing !, and also one other race to contact and ask if they would like us along, which if the world doesn't freeze over we might be able to get to.

Last days for ordering

and whilst you're wondering what to buy people for that last minute christmas present - I'll be processing your orders up to midday on Christmas Eve, but please do hurry up and order any postal items before Tuesday 21st. Digital orders naturally go as fast as the email can...

In other news, I'd like to apologies in advance if you don't get a christmas card from me. Please understand it's because I consider you to have higher emotional strength and ethical values not needing a commercial symbol of communication as some kind of acceptance in my world, since you already are. You are a wonderful person and I'm sure you will have a great holiday. Remember that.

Until next time, or Sunday in the Snow, please go safely and do Have a Happy Christmas !

Anthony

Seaford Mince Pie 10 - now live

Now live - Seaford Mince Pie 10 Gallery : http://gallery.sussexsportphotography.com/a.tlx?k=4yjzgct

Oh, yes, that Christmas thing
At this point I could put in some hard nosed sales pitch to remind you all to buy your friends a picture for christmas (just check the results from a race to get their race number and use it to find their picture) from any of the races that are currently on the gallery. But I won't. That would be far too blatant for you as my discerning readers. So I'll refrain from any seasonal hard pressure sales and instead say that at any time of year you can put a smile on a friends face by buying them a great action picture of them at their best in a race. You don't have to be a wife, husband, girlfriend or boyfriend to do this for them, just a terribly nice person. So go on, be nice, and make someeones day special. And honestly, it's cheaper and more personal than 90% of the rubbish out there at the moment, isn't it.

Races
Meanwhile, with the thaw from last friday holding through this weekend we managed to have a complete weekend of races, although I hear they were cutting the ice at Hawley lake in Kyaks this morning (crazy fools). The forecast is for more snow from thursday round these parts, so get yourself out before it all goes Pete Tong again. Moreover, next sunday bear in mind it is the Crowborough 10k - rearranged from last weekend on the 19th December now, as well as the Holly Run organised by RPAC in Reigate.

This weekend
So this weekend saw the Seaford 10 mile Mince Pie race (which starts in Peacehaven) had perfect weather, clear blue skies which actually got even better to a thin milky cloud just softening it fantastically for outdoor photography.

A record turnout on the day, with many many Seaford Striders marshalling the course (I think I saw upwards of 68 marshal points on their map), raising funds for their charity of the Seaford Community First Responders

At the two mile mark it looked considerably more than 400 runners coming along the waterwork fence with sun in the background.

On the way back in it was the opportunity to pick out various types of fancy dress and cheerful people...
Surrender was an option

first of the Santa Hats

Indie getting training in ready for the snow

Don't shave your legs if you want to keep warm in leggings

A happy Santa

Top Tinsel Tails

The hills were alive

A bit of pre-christmas eve fitness before the 24th for the whole team

And if you're not looking out, Rudolph will get you
So - Now live - Seaford Mince Pie 10 Gallery : http://gallery.sussexsportphotography.com/a.tlx?k=4yjzgct

Crowborough 10k and RPAC Holly run, Snow and a bit of decorating, as well as some christmas shopping for my 3yr old daughter and the wife. Any suggestions for those are welcome! (info@sussexsportphotography.com)

Keep safe in the cold and snow when it comes, and until next time

Race cancellations

It's Snowing
Just in case you didn't hear about it - so far all the races this weekend are under review or cancelled due to the snow.

The ones I know that are cancelled/postponed so far include, on Sunday December 5th:
Doyen of the Downs: link
Crowborough 10k: link
Luton Marathon: http://www.lutonmarathon.org.uk/
Saturdays Womens christmas cracker chase at Worthing: link

Under review:(as of 4pm Friday)

Sundays Duck Pond Waddle: link

Fortune-telling abilities
It gives me no satisfaction in my prediction that last weekends 3 Molehills race at Denbys organised by Events to Live would be the last chance of a race this year before christmas, but for once it turns out I might be right (dances the dance of rightness whilst the wife isn't looking).

3 MoleHills last Sunday
Despite one or two marshals getting things topsy-turvey, the 3 Molehills still managed to raise a large amount of money for the The Queen Elizabeth Foundation of £1500. It was a great day out, although sub zero on Box Hill didn't do my fingers an good as my camera bag frosted over at 8:30am !
Here's the gallery : http://gallery.sussexsportphotography.com/a.tlx?k=ninzgbp

Right, I've now got a weekend off and also the subsequent week of image processing, preparation and putting online, so I'd best get on with the Tax return due since April.

The local school christmas fair portrait session has been cancelled too as I'm not going to carry all my studio kit over the icy paths, however in other news, the Studio here is almost up and running - if anyone wants a photoshoot then get in touch...Kids, Dads and Mums allowed. (I'll be promoting it more once I've finished all the decorating). Here's one I did earlier with Sophie Coleman World Junior Duathlete Champion, see if you can figure out how I did it, answers on a postcard...
Have a nice weekend - in the Gym, Pool or treadmill. Go carefully and safely in the ice, snow and cold,
until next time
