With chip timing and a different start/finish location as well as Sunshine on special offer (for the morning only) the Roding Valley Half Marathon went of very smoothly. With reports of one headphone wearer oblivious to the world around them getting into difficulty with a car (no fatalities fortunately), it would seem that this london based race will be banning headphones for next year.

Personally I agree with that, the number of times I've been shouting something motivational to a competitor only realise later that some Eurovision track was taking up runner headspace is too many to mention, let alone the number of times I've shouted warnings that have been ignored (like "watch out for the deep mud", and "don't go to Libya"). You can feel a bit of a fool trying to gee-up someone with headphones on. I imagine it can make race marshals equally demotivated. So do us all a favour, ditch them, and for your own safety - use all 6 senses when running on the roads, especially in a race.

Right, minor rant over, here's some piccys from the Roding Valley Half from Sunday. The sunshine was on special offer, and made a nice change from the past two years. The chip timing seemed to work very well too. Someone ran all the way round backwards, as well as a few regulars from the Essex racing circuits turning out for the county champs. As Wallace would say, "A Great Day out".
Race Director  David all ready with magnetophone

Pay attention I will say this only once !

Off round the top of the park for the start this time

Happy finished power wave

Victory for Pitsea

chillin' at the 10 mile mark

What do you mean you're running the whole thing backwards ?

"Sikhs in the city" - apparently a new film out soon
A busy weekend of Runners Need G3 race 3 (the really tough one), and then the Steyning Stinger half and full marathons on Sunday (sold out). Both races with Free photo downloads included in the race entry fee, and both with ridiculous numbers of hills included in the route. Is this a pattern emerging ?

Until next time, train safe, keep warm and enjoy, see you soon...

Anthony
