Huge congratulations to everyone involved in staging the inaugural Tonbridge Half Marathon, an excellent partnership between the Tonbridge Lions Club and Tonbridge Rotary Club.

Sunny conditions prevailed for the 820 or so runners as they raced their way round the traffic free roads of Tonbridge and the Kent countryside having been started by local double Olympic Gold winner Dame Kelly Holmes.

Dame Kelly gets them underway - stood on the timing car !
The race was sponsored by Porsche Centre Tonbridge and they also provided the lead car and sweeper vehicle.
The Lead car won the race !

The rolling hills of the Kent countryside provided a nice backdrop to the runners

2 miles in on the traffic free course and the crowds were still chasing him

There was strong support for the runners at the finish with some great cheering to welcome the runners back from the one loop course.
The First lady finished in 4th overall
Strong finishing in 9th place

Great support at the finish

Having started the race, Dame Kelly Holmes remained for the duration and was there at the finish to welcome the runners home with a big smile and present over 700 of them with their medals before making the prize presentation to the winners.   The race was won by Thomas Fewster in 1:15:48 with an age grading of 78.69% and first lady home in 4th position overall was Tina Oldershaw in 1:21:55 with an age grading of 85.98%.

Best overall race age grade performance was 87.91% by Tonbridge runner Sally Musson, a national standard pace.
Well done to everyone who took part in this great addition to the South's racing calendar.  An excellent collaboration between the Tonbridge Lions Club and the Tonbridge Rotary Club in organising the race.  The race supports 3 local charities The Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust, The Hospice in the Weald and the Kent Air Ambulance so please go and have a look to see why.
