It was a damp and windy day down at the Lewes AC track on the Easter Monday. Traditionally a day which leads to family picnics on the grass whilst different ages have a go at the different races through the morning, the turnout remained strong, although the picnics went into the sports hall and resorted to the tea queue.
This year saw the introduction of a dream mile race - ideal for those who don't want to do the 2 mile race and too old for the toddler two lap trot. This was well received and likely to make a bigger return next year by the looks of things.
This was the first time that my eldest daughter (now 4) had made it round the two laps without assistance or cajoling, or being carried, although she did confess to holding someones hand after one lap for a little while as a bit of a help. Most impressively she didn't sprint off like a crazy and then run out of go, she paced herself very evenly all the way round. #prouddad. Third time she's done the fun run, and the first time for her sister (2yrs) and although she did get carried round most of it - she did run in for her chocolate at the finish !
In the 10k Robbie James of Lewes AC closed a 34:52 to win and Gemma Sharp of Arena 80 held a 40:35 to win the womens race. Patrick McManus managed an 11:27 for the 2mile race with Maddy Smith kicking at the end to take the womens race in 12:17 and fourth place. The 1 mile and toddler trot races are not timed - in case you were wondering.
As a quick heads up - 2011 Barns Green Half and Beachy Head marathon photos are going to be archived and taken off the gallery next - so please make sure if you were thinking of getting one - please act quickly to get them

We get about three requests a month from archive image hunters but the priority has to be on current orders and events, so please don't leave it too late as it's cheaper and faster to get them whilst they are online.
